Voting districts

Elections in South Africa are contested at the level of voting district. Every voting district has a voter’s roll – and every voting district will announce an election result or results.

In the 2019 National ad Provincial elections, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has 22 933 voting districts across the country.  Each voting district will declare two results – one for the National ballot, and one for the provincial ballot.

Therefore, in total the IEC will process 45 866 results in total.
