The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has tightened  security at the National Results Operation Centre (ROC) in Pretoria.

The IEC Deputy Chief Electoral Officer for Corporate Services Akhtari Henning says the centre is restricted. The IEC is expected to announce the official election results from the ROC on Saturday.

Henning says the number of security deployed at the centre is satisfactory to make sure that the space is run smoothly.

“There has been an increase of security at the centre because of the activities that are going to happen,” says Henning.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel, Jaan Steynberg says the increased number of police officials at the centre will assist with issues around access control, ” people without accreditation will not easily be allowed in.”
