The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has sent a team of 28 staffers to cover the Olympics for both radio and television. They will update South Africa on the latest from the Games on all 3 television channels and 18 radio stations. Head of the SABC team in London, Croc Ngwenya, says the public broadcaster has proved, during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, that they are capable of covering major sporting events. “People in South Africa must expect excitement. We will make sure that pictures captured from this side will be delivered back home,” says Ngwenya. He says that SABC 1 will be carrying most of the soccer and basketball, SABC 2, athletics and SABC 3, the tennis. She says that planning for the production started more than 2 years ago. “There are more than 70 000 volunteers who help with directions, or finding the nearest fish and chips shop, who make life a little easier for everyone covering the Olympics,” says technical manager for the SABC team, Frikkie Skoonraad. Now all that is left to say is, let the Games begin.
