‘Police assaulted me for 45 minutes’ Thwala tells Meyiwa trial

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Senzo Meyiwa’s long-time friend Mthokozisi Thwala has described in court how he was tied up while allegedly being assaulted by the police.

Thwala was giving evidence in the Meyiwa murder trial in the high court in Pretoria.

The Orlando Pirates soccer star was shot and killed in Vosloorus in 2014.

An emotional Thwala says he was brought from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng under false pretences by one of the investigating officers, only to be assaulted.

“Men came in and assaulted me, for what? Then one came in with a bag and they assaulted me for a good 45 minutes to an hour. On my back and on my chest with their boots. From the backpack they took out a rope, that rope is a big and tight strong rope, it is the one you use to tie a cow and you are about to slaughter it,” explains Thwala.
