Calm has returned to the Impala Bafokeng Platinum Mine in Rustenburg after some employees who embarked on strike action, demanding shares from the mine and for the mine to employ them permanently, desisted.

The protest action that was started last week ended when the mine obtained an interdict to stop the workers from continuing with their action.

Some workers voiced strong discontent with their employer and their union, National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

”I want shares that were stolen by NUM. So, we took a decision to start a committee because of the shares that were stolen. We want to be employed permanently by the mine. We no longer want to be represented by NUM.”
