The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) says an appeal cannot be ruled out, after the Labour Court this week granted the Ford Motor Company in Silverton Pretoria, an interim interdict and ordered striking workers to return to work.

The interim order prevents workers from taking part in or instigating any strike action.

In a statement, Ford says further production disruptions will have a profound impact on the company’s operations in South Africa and the economy, urging the workers to return to work.

The strike was over profit sharing at the company, that is opposed by Ford.

The employer argues that this is an incentive demand that has already been accommodated in a signed 2022 wage agreement.
