The trial of Stanley Leshabane and three co-accused will resume in the High Court in Polokwane today.

Leshabane, Ndondo Buthelezi, Sifiso Phiyose and Emmanuel Dlamini have been charged with the murder of Leshabane’s wife Makoena Mabusela-Leshabane and her business associate Tebogo Mphuti, in October 2020.

Leshabane allegedly hired four hitmen to kill the two who had travelled from Johannesburg to Polokwane for business dealings.

Several witnesses, including police officers, eyewitnesses, clinicians, Leshabane’s son, and ballistics experts have testified during the trial.

An attempt by Leshabane’s legal representatives to persuade the court to consider him mentally unfit to stand trial was unsuccessful.

When the court adjourned, a vehicle tracking expert presented detailed routes of the vehicle the alleged hitmen were driving on the day of the killings.

The accused are also expected to be cross-examined this week.

Several postponements have taken place due to various reasons, including the change of their legal representations and the medical report on whether accused number one, Leshabane, is fit to stand trial.

A psychiatric report has since indicated that he is fit to stand trial.
