Moonshot Pact to meet today to plot a way forward

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Moonshot Pact, the opposition grouping led by the Democratic Alliance (DA), will be meeting today, to plot a way forward, as the declaration of votes in the National Elections reaches its final stages.

The group, which includes the DA, as well as the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Action SA and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+), have not garnered enough to form a government.

The African National Congress (ANC) is in the lead overall, but at 40.13% has taken a dramatic fall since the last election in 2019.

To form a government, the ANC has a choice to join up with the DA or to try to reach deals with a number of smaller parties.

It could join up with either the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party or the Economic Freedom Fighters ( EFF),  but both parties said before the elections that they would not do so.
