Meyiwa trial adjourned to allow cellphone expert to prepare maps

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has adjourned until tomorrow morning. This is to allow Vodacom’s forensic liaison supervisor Pinky Vythilingam to prepare additional cellphone tower maps that the defence has requested.

Five men are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain. Vythilingam was expected to unpack evidence on the location and distance of cellphone towers where the phones of some of the accused pinged.

However, defence counsel Charles Mnisi told the court he was unable to see key locations on the map provided. Vythilingam has requested the defence to be clear in their request.

“ It all depends on what the requirements are from the defence and how much and how much information they require and exactly what they want and I’ve indicated to Advocates Law and Sibanda that the defence should be clear on what they request so that I could provide it first time round, so that there’s no back-and-forth again in terms of the maps.”
