The court case of a Matlosana Municipality top official accused of embezzling funds to purchase property has been postponed.

The Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on Monday postponed the fraud case of the municipality’s manager, Lesego Seametso and her sister, Kelebogile Seametso to early August.

The pair appeared following investigations by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime, which resulted in their arrest last week Sunday.

The two sisters face charges of theft, fraud, corruption and money laundering.

The municipal manager was granted R20 000 bail while her sister was released on R10 000 bail.

According to Hawks Gauteng spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha, investigations show that the two had benefited from stolen municipal funds.

“A case was registered at Klerksdorp police station in May 2024, wherein it was reported that tender irregularities amounting to R3 million were identified within the municipality coffers. The period in question was March 2022 to August 2023,” Ramovha says.

He adds: “The funds were reportedly used to purchase a house through a family trust account in which the municipal manager and her sister are trustees.”

Ramovha says the two sisters return to court on August 2.
