School children of Mavalani High outside Giyani in Limpopo are happy that their school was chosen to host the the cebration of the International Nelson Mandela Day. The celebration of Tata Madiba’s 93rd birthday kicked off at the school this morning. The learners and their teachers were joined by Government ministers, deputy ministers, MEC’s and Premier Cassel Mathale in singing a birthday song for Madiba.SABC brings you all the news and latest celebrations around Mandela Day.

Minister for Arts and Culture Paul Mashatile says former president Nelson Mandela has a special place in his heart for children. Mashatile and other Cabinet Ministers joined about one thousand Mavalani High School learners in Limpopo in singing a birthday song for Madiba. Mashatile says this was done in honour of Mandela who always fought for better education for all.

The learners and their teachers were joined by Government ministers, deputy ministers, MEC’s and Premier Cassel Mathale in singing a birthday song for Madiba. The South African flag was also hoisted at the school entrance. The school was also given books and computers. The learners say the activity has motivated them in their studies.
