South Africa’s Chad le Clos reached his fifth final of the London Olympic Games last night. He broke the South African record for the 100 metre butterfly twice in yesterday’s heats. Le Clos won gold in the 200 metre butterfly on Tuesday, beating American superstar Michael Phelps into second place. Phelps will again be the man to beat in the 100 metre final, having swam the fastest time of the semi-finals. The final will take place at 8:30pm South African time tonight. Meanwhile, the South African women’s hockey team have suffered their third successive defeat in the Olympics. They went down 2-0 to Germany after losing to Argentina and New Zealand in the earlier rounds. Germany narrowly shot wide and hit the post in the first half. The Germans then scored the first goal on the stroke of half time. They sealed the match in the second half with a second goal to condemn the South Africans to their third defeat and end their Olympic hopes of a medal.
