The incident comes after nine suspects were shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Mariannhill last month.

The suspects in the April incident had been terrorising residents of the area.

UPDATE AT 10H15:

Police in KwaZulu-Natal says the four suspects killed in a shoot-out with officers in Camperdown are linked to some cash-in-transit robberies in the province.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Jay Naicker, says, “Over the past week, we had a spate of cash-in-transit robberies in the province. We have been very worried that the gang that was carrying that out had intelligence on the movement of cash. They were robbing vehicles with large amounts of cash. The Hawks are investigating and we’ve been working jointly with them. It’s a multi-disciplinary investigation.”
