Education activist Hendrick Makaneta believes that the Free State will still maintain its top performance come the announcement of the 2023 matric results.

For the first time since 2009, the popular MEC for Education Tate Makgoe won’t be around when the results are released. Under Makgoe, the province clinched the number one spot for four years in a row and for seven times since 2009.

An education activist believes there is no doubt that the province will come out on top again. Many said MEC Makalo Mohale, who took over from Makgoe, had big shoes to fill and that it would take some time before Makgoe’s programs were replaced.

Education activist Hendrick Makaneta says, “In my view, Free State may continue to perform even much better because of the legacy that has been left by the late MEC Makgoe. Once the train is in motion, it may not stop immediately. So what I’m trying to say here is that the train is still in motion; the work of MEC Makgoe has been put to the test for a number of years now, and there’s no doubt that his legacy of improved performance in the province will continue to exist.”

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is set to release the matric results at 6pm today.
