The Democratic Alliance (DA) says none of the members on the party’s national and provincial candidate’s lists have been charged with fraud or corruption.

The DA leader in the Eastern Cape, Athol Trollip, was reacting to reports that several members of the ANC who have been disciplined, fired or convicted of fraud, have found their way back on the ruling party’s candidate lists.

Trollip has told supporters at the DA’s provincial manifesto launch at Mdantsane that the party has full confidence in its nominated members. “In the DA we announce all our candidates today, not a single of them is facing corruption charges or found guilty of corruption or fraud or any of those charges,” says Trollip.

Trollip has also questioned the nomination of former Minister of Communications, Dina Pule, on the ANC candidate’s list in which she comes in at number 70 on the national list for nominations to Parliament. He says, “But we got people like Dina Pule who have been found guilty of mis-spending taxpayers’ money – she is still on the ANC list.”

Meanwhile, all political parties wishing to contest the May 7 elections have submitted their lists and paid the required deposits for both national and provincial contests.

Ordinary South Africans will have an opportunity to inspect the candidates list for the 2014 general elections. They will also be given an opportunity to submit their objections emanating from the list.
