Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga says the stalemate in negotiations between his party and the African National Congress (ANC) on forming a Government of Provincial Unity will have a negative impact on service delivery in the province.

The two parties are still at loggerheads and have not reached an agreement over the composition of the executive council.

The DA says the ANC insists on giving it three Cabinet seats in the Gauteng government, while keeping the remaining seven seats, which include the Premier.

It says this is in violation of the proportionality clause.

Msimanga has expressed concerns over the delays in forming a provincial government.

He says, “It’s unfortunate that this is stalling decision-making and getting on with the program of government. You would know there’s issues of safety and security in Gauteng, issues of infrastructure that is collapsing, issues of schools, issues with our hospitals, with our clinics and we are very much concerned about those things. And if there’s no political leadership to steer the program of government it does affect the ability of government to deliver services  to the people.”
