Voters have sent a strong message to the ANC: Lesufi

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi says voters have sent a strong message to the African National Congress (ANC). The party’s support dropped to below 36% in the province.

Lesufi was speaking at the Gauteng Results Operation Centre in Alberton on Gauteng’s East Rand where 99% of votes have been counted.

Lesufi says the results could have been worse for the ANC.

“I really don’t believe that traditionally the ANC has lost these elections. What we have is a message that has been delivered by our voters at our doorstep. It’s up to us to do with that message. Traditionally, the ANC voters have made a decision. They have left the message at our door step. We have to go read those messages, decipher those messages and use our thinking capabilities to determine the way forward. It’s something I assume the national leadership of the ANC would do. We really believe it could have been worse.”
