The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has vowed to object to the results of the elections and is calling for a recount.

The MK party says the counting process was marred by a lot of discrepancies and secrecy.

The party alleges that some people were found wondering at the Telkom server in the early hours of Friday and the Electoral Commission (IEC) is not saying who those people were.

MK party’s spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhela says they have also picked up some irregularities on some of the voting slips.

“We find it strange that the IEC having a service provider like Telkom finds itself with a system that shuts for two hours. What transpired in those two hours? Even the question around who is this technician that was found. There is a lot of issues in terms of how the IEC has managed this process.”

Ndhela adds: “You know it correlated with what we are picking on the ground in terms of the voting stations as it pertains to the slips. So there is just no confidence in what is happening on that screens and we are effectively asking for a recount and we are rejecting what you see on the screen behind us. The level of secrecy around the individual that was found where the Minister of Police was also there.”
