Flooding in parts of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has claimed two lives.

The Metro’s spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya says two people have also been reported missing.

Soyaya says 65 people have been rescued thus far.

Kariega and the surrounding areas are severely affected, with a number of roads closed.

Daniel Pienaar, Cuyler and Algoa Road are some of the roads that have been closed in Kariega.

The road to Blue Horizon Bay is also flooded and not accessible.

Matanzima Road in Kwanobuhle is also closed after a minibus-taxi crashed into a huge sinkhole.

Rescue operations are continuing and a joint operation centre is coordinating the efforts.
